    ...
The researchers found that using the flat bed system increased yields by an average of 6 percent, even though 5 percent less water was used for irrigation. This meant that using flat beds instead of ridged rows for potato production led to an overall 12 percent increase in irrigation water use efficiency. The gains were attributed to several factors, especially the probability that planting potatoes in flat beds improves water and nitrogen use efficiency because more water reaches the potato roots.
These findings, which were published in 2011 in the American Journal of Potato Research, could help commercial farmers increase yields and profits, save valuable water resources, and reduce nitrate leaching.

    Saint Joseph's Moorebank
Cumberland plain woodland was their project. Cumberland used to cover most of western sydney until 1788 when the european settlers settled in.There is only two percent of original cumberland plan woodland left. Today it is an important part of western sydney. In the future it will never be the same but if we preserve the plants and animals that live around the area we could possibly regenerate someof the land. the school visited chauvel park researching bad and good things about it. The first tree they noticed in the park was the wattle tree. They found many flora and fauna including centipedes and termites. During the presentation Moorebank had an interactive quiz. they showed us their letter to the council. Following that they had a interesting rap about saving the cumberland woodland. after that they showed us the survey that they sent to all the local residents. After that they showed the beyond the fence goerges river education centre photos which including them in many fun activities. they then presented a video of an interview with Martin Parkinson who talked about the condition of the park. They then gave us tips about how to preserve native areas that are important to the future generations of our world.
